For many decades, designers have been searching for Frank Lloyd Wright to design inspiration. The principles underlying its design approach can be applied anything that calls for a fine aesthetic quality. If you have an outdoor area that you would make more comfortable and attractive, the approach and the structures created by Wright might be worth investigating. The Dana-Thomas House in Springfield, Illinois, Fallingwater in Bear Run, Pennsylvania, and many other architectural works scattered in the States U.S. remains a value, with the principles that the scaffolding area these devices are definitely worth the import of a project, if you are creating a humble garden, swimming pool or relax outdoors on a large saloon. Anyone can benefit from emulating the emphasis on "quality of place" which is in the works of Wright.
If you've been to a garden party or backyard barbecue, and felt uneasy or uncomfortable, despite the big people and wonderful food, the reason may have been a lack of safe design principles. These are only obvious when there are no elements: It is much more likely that we realize that the disturbance of order, to pay attention to what is out of place or jarring than the regular, reliable consistency of a screen or space.Â
Frank Lloyd Wright is known for "organic" architectural design: This was again the architect and has a pronounced organic relationship between a work Construction / exterior space and the surrounding building. Materials (stone, metal, wood, concrete, concrete blocks) is applied on the exterior of a house in Wright and landscaping were deliberately connected although the use of similar materials and forms. Fully house until the finer details - furniture, lighting fixtures, the patterns of carpets, fabrics were repeated, etc. - organic shapes, textures and tones. Wright did with his approach to repeat the forms and the connection of indoor and outdoors with his organic architecture, many have done, albeit in different ways.Â
Since ancient times (witness the Parthenon and cave paintings) humans have adopted the calming and soothing effect of pattern and repetition, and anybody can apply this approach in the design of an outdoor area. You need not be a famous architect or even a professional interior designer.Â
It begins with taking note of what organic elements are natural in your area. It This forest, desert or mountain areas? Is the yard adjacent to a brick house or a log cabin? What predominant forms and lines meet the eye from the point of view of the outdoor area in question? You can repeat and imitate line, color, texture and more.
Line: Is there a fence or gate with a handsome arch dominant or multi-linear pattern? Is this a hilly or mountainous area with peaks and curves of sight? Remember that the lines horizontal are softer, while the vertical and diagonal lines to create tension or excitement. You can refer to his comments on the line when shown lounge chair cushions, patio furniture, patio umbrella style, pots and bricks or tiles work.Â
Color: This element covers tone and is often the most watched, so it makes sense to maintain a tight palette. In early Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie houses were built of brick and stucco, so the colors chosen for interior applications were generally warm autumn shades of green, red, yellow and brown. Limit the number of colors and repeat their use through a structure brings unity and harmony. This method is ideal for outdoor living space where relaxation is the goal. Note the shades to work with the environment natural and the house itself and select individual repeating in all decorative elements.Â
Texture: The texture is innovation with a signature technique of Wright. For example, Wright's Ennis-Brown house located in California, was built with concrete blocks with textured to mimic the pre-Columbian architecture. Wright widely tested textured concrete blocks and other means to evoke the architecture found in other parts of the world. You can do the same as designing your outdoor living space. Consider the possibility of texture as a design element in horizontal and vertical surfaces, sun-resistant fabrics, lighting, tiles and more. Limiting the types of textures you use and repeat elements of texture for a rich and inspiring place to relax and gather.Â

To begin to incorporate their ideas, to sit outdoors where you will create a comfortable new patio or other space and outline the ideas, the chances of repeating ad organic lines, colors and textures.Â
Finally, you may wish to note that Frank Lloyd Wright studied basic design elements and was intimate with the basic principles that have informed the grand architecture of the centuries. Then he went on his own, pioneering a new frontier in home and building design. You are also limited only by your imagination, so fun, experiment and see what happens!
Petra Travesen began learning about design as a wayward art student decades ago. Years of decorating - everything from purchasing new decorative throw pillows that did wonders for an old livingroom set to redoing entire kitchens - has taught her a thing or two about what to do and what not to do (Scarlet paint for the laundry room? Maybe not.) These days, Petra is busy enjoying a little more down time writing and reading about all things design/architecture. Last month she found some fabulous custom made cushions for a new chaise lounge, beautiful earthy tones that complement her "wunder-garden" and couldn't be more pleased.
