how many hours will a 9 volt power 50 led lights?
if i string up 50 leds to a 9 volt battery how long will the battery last
OK, you still need something, a current limiter of some kind. The typical forward bias voltage drop is 1 volt to 1.5 volts. So, I could connect several in series to accommodate the 9 volts without burning out a LED because of overvoltage. 6 in series would be just about right. That would give me 8 strings in parallel with 6 in each leg. Typical current in each string would be about 20MA, for a total current drain of about 160MA. The typical alkaline 9V battery has a capacity of 250MAH, which means something less than 1.5 hours tops. Since the voltage drops as the power is used, I'd be looking at more like an hour before the capacity of the battery drops to a point where the LEDs no longer are above the threshold point to light. This is JUST an ESTIMATE based on my experience. Depending on the exact LEDs you use, the time could be much more or much less. You would be much better off using AA cells with 6 in series, which would have a capacity of about 1.5AH and last about 6 times as long as the 9v battery, or about 6 full hours to as long as 9 hours.
