Is a Dustbuster an effective means of killing bugs?

I absolutely cannot stand finding bugs in my house...and sometimes my husband or I use our Dustbuster (small handheld vacuum device) to suck up bugs (spiders and the like) that we find indoors. Does this process kill them? My husband maintains that it does, that the vacuum suction itself and the resulting impact inside the machine is enough to do so. Does your experience bear this out, or should I just buy a fly-swatter (and then something to get the bug guts off the walls)?

Doesn't the dustbuster have a soft cloth filter inside of it? I don't really see how that would kill a bug... next time you suck one up, open the Dustbuster and check (or have your husband do it since he maintains that it works!).
