Plant grow light question?
I have a grow light system from the hydrofarm company which has a 125W bulb. I have many smaller plants(seedlings) growing underneath it and i have 2 trees growing under it. I have an avacado tree that is about a foot tall and a mango tree that is a little over a foot tall under the light. How far away should i keep the light away from the plants and how long should i leave it on?
It is a CFL light
This is a LOT of plants growing under one 125 watt lamp, I wonder if you're adding supplemental sunlight to the mix, because you normally can't grow much with this size bulb. You can put plants as close to any bulb as possible without them burning - I imagine that's within an inch or two of this bulb. You might want the bulb farther away, just so it lights up a bigger area, since you have so many plants. Most people leave plant lights on for as long as the daylength would be where your plants would be prospering best, and that typically varies anywhere from 12 to 18 hours a day, depending on what you're growing, and whether you're trying to mimic summertime conditions, or winter. Those kinds of decisions are very crop-specific. If you get serious about this, you're probably going to want a bigger light, with all the plants you have. I'd suggest Sodium or Metal Halide bulbs.
