Bad/rude to have some guests stand during wedding ceremony?
We are getting married on a Sunday so we cannot use our church.
We were planning on using a room that can seat about 75 . It is surrounded by 6 sets of double french doors that open into the restaurant where our reception will be ( the proposed ceremony site is called the interior patio room )
Is it bad if some people need to stand at the double doors to watch? I hate the thought of that, but my options are limited on a Sunday. We are anticipating about 120 people.
We cannot get married in the outdoor garden because June in Florida is too darn hot.
My decorator thought it would be ok for some people to stand . I feel kind of weird about it. But there is room at the double doors looking into the room.
What do you think?
PS: I am checking into renting a site across town just for the ceremony, but really wanted to avoid it unless having some guests stand is totally tasteless.
PSS: there is pleany of seating for everyone for the sit down meal
I think it's pretty bad to make some guests stand while others get to sit. Even if they don't say anything to you (which they won't if they're polite), treating some guests differently from others sends the message that some people are more important to you than others.
Especially since you're feeling weird about it, I'd look into either trimming down the guest list or booking the other site for the ceremony. It's not against etiquette to have the ceremony and reception in different locations, and if all of your guests will be comfortable, it's probably the best scenario.
